.Glenn L. Halley Sr. , 81, of Mt. Pleasant, MS passed away at his home on Friday, January 25, 2019 after returning home from the hospital on the 24th. He was diagnosed with cancer in November 2018.
Mr. Halley was born October 4, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee to Jewell Leath and Gladys Mayble (Palmer) Halley. He spent the early years of his life in Memphis until his dad bought a farm in Pocahontas, Tennessee and moved the family there.
He graduated school in Middleton, Tennessee and attended church at Pocahontas Baptist Church where he was baptized at the age of 15.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother J. W. Halley, sister Mary Dye and his daughter Deborah Lynn Bradford, and two grandsons.
He is survived by his Wife Marjorie Audean (Dunning) Halley, Sisters Martha Davis of Walnut, MS and Jewelene Little of Pocahontas, TN, Daughter Glenda L.(Danny) Long of Cayce MS, Sons: John L. Halley, Michael E. (Teresa) Halley, of Cayce, MS. Joseph (Christina) Glisson and Glenn L. Halley Jr (Tina) of Mt. Pleasant, MS. He had 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He served in the US Army from 1956 through 1959 at the end of the Korean War.
He served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for 29 years with the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department.
He worked as a truck mechanic at International Harvester trucks in Memphis for 24 years, and Yellow Freight in Memphis for 18 years, where he retired in 2003.
He was also a member of the Mid-South Flywheelers Antique Tractor Club for many years.
He enjoyed attending the tractor shows, fishing and pretty much anything else he could do with his family.
He was a “master mechanic” and could repair and build almost anything you could imagine. Most community members can remember his great Christmas decorations that he built himself.
His remains will be cremated. Visitation will be held Sunday January 27, 2019 at Holly Springs Funeral Home from 1-3 PM with a memorial service at 3 PM.
