Richard Gayle "Winky" Henderson, 81, of Hickory Flat, Mississippi passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born to the late Mr. Richey Henderson and Mrs. Mabel Brown Henderson in Eufala, Alabama on November 6, 1944. 

 

"Winky" was a hard worker. He worked for Maurey Manufacturing for many years. He became well known around Holly Springs having worked at local convenience stores in town. He and his brother Don also worked for Spencer Candy Company. "Winky" was a loving father, uncle, and friend. He was a very generous man and would help anyone he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

 

Mr. Henderson is survived by a daughter, Heather Hopkins (Dennis), 8 grandchildren: Savannah Ormon (Josh), Hannah Foote, Dustin Hopkins, Enrique Hopkins (Kayla), Ricky Hopkins, Jacob Hopkins (Emily), Ryan Hopkins, and Penny Mae Brady, 2 great-grandchildren: Swayze Blake Ormon and Addie Jane Hopkins, 2 bonus children: Darrell Chumney and Misty Hopkins (Jimmy), 6 bonus grandchildren: Tucker Chumney, Oakley Chumney, Ridge Chumney, Honor Chumney, Bayley Hopkins, and Emily Hurley, 2 bonus great-grandchildren: Nathan Thornberry and Westyn Glover, as well as several nieces and nephews: Steve Henderson (Connie), Tammy Henderson, Jason Love, Lesa McGillivray (Steve). He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Charles Henderson and Donald Henderson, 1 sister: Becky Love, and 2 grandchildren: Blake Hopkins and Bud Hopkins. 

 

Pallbearers will be: Dennis Hopkins, Josh Ormon, Enrique Hopkins, Steve Henderson, Jason Love, Steve McGillivray, and Darrell Chumney. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ralph Clayton, Tate Miller, and Larry Love.

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026 from 5 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 16th, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Services will be held in the chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery where a graveside service will be held.
