Oscar Leonard Hurdle Jr., 88, of Southaven, Mississippi passed away on June 14, 2026 at home. Oscar was born to the late Mr. Oscar Leonard Hurdle Sr. and Mrs. Venie Edwards Hurdle on May 1, 1938 in Slayden, Mississippi. Oscar was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and worked for Kimberly Clark and Yellow Freight for most of his career. Oscar was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to talk about hunting, passing on that knowledge to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But Oscar could just as often have been found rocking his grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren, to sleep. 

Mr. Hurdle is survived by his wife, Shirley Catherine Barefoot Hurdle, 2 sons: Victor Lyn Hurdle (Darla) of Harriman, TN and Richard Barry Hurdle (Yvonne) of Southaven, 2 daughters: Deliece Hurdle of Gardnerville, NV and Candace Doddridge (Jeremy) of Southaven, 2 grandchildren (Leah, Heather)  and 5 great-grandchildren (Caleb, Corbin, Elijah, Chrissy Cate, and Josie). He is also survived by a sister, Nell Amelia Lewis of Slayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Alan Hurdle, and granddaughter, Rachel. 

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM and last until service time. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM. All services will be held in the chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026. Burial will follow in the Slayden Cemetery. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
