Doris Steele Stone

Doris Steele Stone: 91. With clear vision and a sound mind Doris met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 19, 2026. Born September 4, 1934 to Stephen Charles and Francis Hilda Steele in Hazlehurst, MS.

She lived in many towns in Mississippi before moving to Memphis, TN in her senior year of high school. At Southside High School she met the love of her life, Donald Albert Stone. They were married on August 27, 1953 and spent 58 years together in Memphis and Slayden. Doris was a skilled secretary for Dunn and Bradstreet and Slayden Middle School, she ran a small family store, and then retired after 21 years as a customer service representative at First Tennessee Bank in Germantown. Doris and Donald enjoyed over 20 years of retirement together. They traveled to England, Germany and many states in the US.

Doris had two children, Darla Taylor of Biggersville, and Dana Stone (Sherri) of Olive Branch. Seven grandchildren: Jacob Stone (Jeanna) of Slayden, Ryan Stone (Liz) of Collierville, Amanda Reeves (Allen) of Biggersville, Chad Stone of Olive Branch, Adam Howell of Biggersville, Kayla Williams (Blake) of Memphis and David Johnson of Olive Branch. Seven great grandchildren: Lynnlee Stone, Charlie Stone, Taylor Reeves, Luke Reeves, Jordyn Grace Stone, Jackson Stone and Easton Howell.
 
Doris was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart, and she tried to share that love of Jesus with all she could. She loved to play the piano, watch Memphis State Basketball, and Slayden Baptist Church.
 
She also leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law Elizabeth Lee Steele and brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Lemmon Jr. She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Charles Steele and Linda Steele Lemmon.

The Stone family would like to THANK the staff at Olive Grove Terrace Memory Care for the wonderful care they gave our mother during the last years of her life.

Memorials can be sent to Bible and Literature Missionary Foundation (BLMF) 2101 Hwy 231 South, Shelbyville, TN 37160.
 
Visitation will be held from 2:30 PM until service time. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM. All services will be held at the Slayden Baptist Church in Slayden, Mississippi on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Burial will follow in the Slayden Cemetery where a graveside service will be held.

I had the opportunity to be a nurse to Mrs. Stone for the last 6 months. She was one of my favorites. I wish the family my sincere condolences during this time.

Mrs. Doris was the first person to seek me out at Slayden Baptist Church. I was there alone that day and she came over and introduced herself and gave me a hug. She was a blessing to me and many others. I am so thankful to have known her and to have been blessed by her prayers.

I am so sorry to learn about your mother‘s death. I was looking for another obituary and noticed your mother‘s obituary. She was a wonderful Christian lady and had a great influence on a lot of people. I know you will miss her and I will be praying for y’all to have good memories in the days ahead. Ross
