Russell Gray Houston Jr

Russell Gray Houston Jr, 92, of Red Banks, passed away at Great Oaks in Byhalia on September 29, 2023.  Born on January 21, 1931, he was the only son of Bernice Johnson and Russell Gray Houston of Red Banks, Mississippi.  He married Eleanor Loretta Alderson on June 25, 1960, who pre-deceased him in 2016.  He leaves two children, Russell "Rusty" Houston (Marty) of Germantown, Tennessee, and Lisa Jones (John) of Olive Branch. He also leaves two grandchildren, William "Houston" Dodson (Ellen) and Emily Sparks (Grant), and four great grandchildren.

Russell Gray was a life-long farmer who also raised beef cattle in Red Banks, and sold real estate, part-time, for Utley Realty.  He served for fifty years for the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation District, and later as a deacon for the First Baptist Church in Holly Springs, where he and Loretta were members.

Services for Russell Gray will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Holly Springs Funeral Home.  A visitation for family and friends will be held immediately preceeding the services, beginning at 1:00 pm.  Burial  will be in Red Banks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations go to the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Heart felt sympathy to all of you from our family. Russell Gray was a great man and I am so glad that I got to visit with him in August.
