In loving memory of our beloved father:
John L Nance Barton, MS – John Lenard Nance, 81, passed away Sunday, July 6,
2025, at home in Barton, MS, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 26,
1944, in Memphis, TN. He was the oldest child to John Wright Nance and Joyce Cooper
Nance. He proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He
was a Switchman for 39 years for the Illinois Central Railroad in Memphis, TN. A faithful
member of New Life Tabernacle church in Byhalia, MS for 40 plus years. He is survived
by his four daughters, Tracy Nance Rosson (Mike) of Eads, TN, Tina Nance Nolen
(James) of Williston, TN, Robin Nance Loyd (Jason) of Byhalia, MS, Tabitha Nance of
Byhalia, MS, and Four Sons, Jonathan Nance (Nancy) of Rossville, TN, Caylon Nance
(Bailey) of Barton, MS, Landon Nance (Leigh Ann) of Moscow, TN, Clayton Nance of
Collierville, TN, Three sisters Joyce Nance Miller of New Albany, Kathryn Nance Tyer of
New Albany, Ashley Nance Gooch (Matthew) of Myrtle.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Patricia L Nance, his son Joseph Aaron
Nance, a brother Richard Nance, a sister Joanna Nance Kirkendall and His Mother and
Father.
He is also survived by 19 Grandchildren, 8 Granddaughters, 11 Grandsons, and 1 Great Granddaughter on the
way.
John grew up in Myrtle MS, farming with his family.
He graduated from Myrtle High School in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1963
where he served as a Navy Seabee. After serving his country he returned home and
worked on his family’s farm and for the Railroad. John married his beloved wife Patricia
Lee Carter on October 9, 1967. John and Patricia had 9 children and raised them in
Barton, MS, where they resided together surrounded with love by their children; their
spouses, and grandchildren, for the remainder of their lives.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 9th from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at the Holly Springs Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be held at the Collierville First Pentecostal Church on Thursday, July 10th at 11:00 AM with a graveside to follow in Myrtle, Mississippi at Gerizim Cemetery.
