Charles Jessup Byrd

Charles Jessup Byrd, 73, formerly of Lamar, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at his home in Myrtle, Mississippi.  He was born on August 5, 1949, in Memphis, to Sam and Lottie Byrd.

Charles was the youngest of ten children, and was a 1969 graduate of Slayden High School.  In 1971, he married the love of his life, Wanda,  and together they made a home and raised a family.  He was a tool and die maker, by trade, and worked for many  years at Troxel Manufacturing. Charles loved to garden, run beagle dogs, and spend time with his family and friends.  He especially loved to spoil all of his grand babies.  He was a Baptist, and was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.  Charles was a hard working, Jesus loving family man.  He leaves a legacy that will go on in the hearts of all who  knew him.

Charles leaves behind a son, Kevin (Angela) of Victoria, two daughters, Karen Benson (Jason) of Myrtle, and Kelly Byrd and fiance, Taylor Skelton of Byhalia.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Destiny Byrd, Joshua Byrd, Jacob Benson, Colby Benson, Gabby Carpenter, Kaitlyn Carpenter, Callie Byrd, and Karlie Link,  and three great grandchildren, Grayson Allen, Anna Beth Butler, and Harper Byrd.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, two grandchildren, Brantley and Allison, his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Services for Charles will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 am, in the Chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 29, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.  Burial, following funeral services, will be at Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to give a "special thanks" to Spring Valley Hospice and Rena Byrd for their love and support during this difficult time.
