Holly Springs Funeral Home

Curtis Goode

Curtis L. Goode, 88, a long-time resident of Memphis TN died on January 29, 2021 at 6:00 PM due to complications from bone cancer.
How do you capture the incredible life of the finest man you ever met in so few words?  His service in the military, degree from the University of Memphis, at that time Memphis State, his long and illustrious business career with Sears, church leader, choir member, and his devotion to his Lord and Savior are all aspects of his life that made the man.  However, I tend to believe it was his love for family, or families in his case, that will fill our hearts and memories with tears that he is no longer here, gladness to have known and have had our lives touched by this man, and joy from our individual and joint recollections of times spent and shared with him over the years.  Pop spent 52 years in love and admiration with Verna Ree Goode (McCauley), 41 of them in marriage, before cancer took her home to her Lord.  He was then blessed again with Zanona June Goode (Curle) whom he loved through 24 years of marriage and a life that neither would have expected to occur, but both cherished.  He praised the successes of ALL his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and accepted and supported those times when they fell short of expectations with little consternation.   Some consternation of course, but truly little.  He did fall short of sainthood, after all.  Through it all he loved well and was well loved.
He was preceded by his parents William Franklin Goode Jr and Lena Bell Goode (Whiteside), 2 brothers Randolph Goode (Priscilla), Dorsey Goode (Elizabeth), and his sister Ida Beatrice Goode.  He leaves his 2 sons Curtis ”Skip” Goode Jr (Tina) and Charles Goode (Amanda), his beloved stepson Mike Curle (Linda) and stepdaughter Joni Nave (Joe). He leaves 10 grandchildren, Josh Goode (Jennifer), Lauren McGinnis (Matthew), Rachel Nichols (Dennis), Whitney Horak (Devon), Taylor Thorne, McCauley Goode, Gray Goode, Chris Curle, Jeremy Cotter (Jessica) and Katie Smith (Lee) and 8 great grandchildren.
A grave site service for immediate family will be held at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 1063 Co Rd 3, Hickory Flat MS 38633 on Saturday Feb 13 at 11:00 AM.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

We felt privileged to have met and known Curt. I think the first time we met Curt was at Mike and Linda's house in Bartlett for Katie's college graduation celebration. I'll never forget Curt walked up to Lee and said "Now that Katie has graduated college Lee, what are your intentions". My son's eyes got so big and I believe he was speechless. I had to chuckle under my breath, as I knew that Curt was trying to plant that seed as to what he thought the next step should be for Lee and Katie's future (marriage). He was always so kind and such a gentleman. You could see the love that he and June had for each other. Praying for your family.
