Karen Loretta Gray

Karen Loretta Gray passed away on June 2, 2019, at the
age of 63 years. She was born in New Albany, MS on
December 10, 1956 and grew up in Ashland, MS along with
her older brother Lee Jr. (b. 1954) and parents Lee Russell
Gray Sr. (1919-2002) and Ella Pearl Gray (Thompson)(1932-
2012).
 
She played high school basketball for Gray Academy and
was the school's leading scorer multiple years. She was also
an avid tennis enthusiast. She enjoyed hunting and fishing in
rural north Mississippi with her father.
 
She went on to attend the University of Mississippi and
graduated with a Masters in Education in 1976. She then
took on an instructor's position at Northwest MS Community
College in Senatobia where she accrued 23 years teaching
many a famous Rangers and soon to be Rebels. She concluded her 25-year teaching career by
completing 2 years as an instructor at Ole Miss.
She is survived by her brother, Lee Russell Gray Jr., nephews Joseph Wesley Gray (Nima) and
Nathan Lee Gray (Lindsay), 1 grand-nephew, and 2 grand-nieces.
A Celebration of Karen’s life will be held at 10 am, on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Holly
Spring’s Funeral Home located at 1160 Highway 311 in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Memorial donations in memory of Karen can be made to JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation) to help create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
