Katherine Hylander

Katherine Marie (Wylie) Hylander was born May 23, 1938. She passed away on January 9,
2023 at home surrounded by her family after her battle with cancer. Kay graduated from
Central High School in 1955 and attended Memphis State University where she met the love of her life William (Bill) Cornelius Hylander.

She worked at the Baptist Children’s Home for many years, while also serving as a librarian for various churches. She was a member of the Collierville Flower Club and the Bellevue Bells. She has served the church and the Lord in many ways over the years, while still teaching Sunday school at Germantown Baptist Church at 84 years old. Kay and Bill were instrumental in the restoration of the LaGrange Civic Center and forming the Cultural Foundation of LaGrange, where Kay served as president.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Fleetwood Wylie and Helen Marie Kirkpatrick, her loving husband of 53 years, William Cornelius “Bill” Hylander, Jr., her daughter, Linda K. Bass, her brother, Raymond Baxter Wylie, her brother-in-law Thomas “Tom” Blummer and her grandchildren, Ethan D. Hylander and Jimmie Alexander “Alex” Shindler (Beth). She is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Blummer, her brother Douglas “Doug” Fleetwood Wylie, her three sons, William C. “Billy” Hylander, III (Betsy) of LaGrange, TN, Gary A. Hylander of Byhalia, MS, and Richard K. “Kurt” Hylander (Tracey) of Eads, TN, her eight grandchildren, William C. “Wil” Hylander (Kristen), Elizabeth “Beth” H. Shindler, Magen B. Hylander, Lauren H. Solomito (Alex), Nathanael “Nate” D. Hylander (Kaitlyn), Reed H. Hylander (Annie), Emma M. Hylander, Austin A. Hylander and her seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Linda Smiley of West Clinic and her team for all of their hard work and dedication to our mom over the last four years. The services will be held in the town of LaGrange at the Immanuel Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The family will receive visitors at 10 am with services at 11 am with burial immediately to follow at LaGrange Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cultural Foundation of LaGrange.
