Holly Springs Funeral Home

Trent Thomas Johnson

Trent Thomas Johnson, 70, of Como, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, on July 14, 2022.  He was born in Holly Springs on October 22, 1951, to James Henry "Jack" Johnson and Mary Lee Thomas Johnson.  Mr Johnson was a member of Como United Methodist Church and a retired utilities manager for both the town of Byhalia and the ciry of Booneville.  He was also former Fire Chief for the town of Byhalia.

Trent was a devoted husband and father.  He looked forward to his and Jane's yearly trips to Gatlinburg to see the changing of the seasons, and he was always a dedicated volunteer and booster at Marshall Academy and at Booneville High School, when Daniel was in school there. He loved Ole Miss sports, especially Rebel football and baseball. Trent was known by folks to have the heart of a true public servant, and would quickly drop what ever he was doing to help someone in need.  As an avid nature lover, he and Daniel squirrel hunted together, and watching his squirrel dogs run was a favorite activity.  In more recent years, he enjoyed nothing more than to sit on his front porch in his rocker and watch the deer and wildlife on his property.

Mr Johnson is survived by his wife of forty years, Jane Mills Johnson, and a son, Daniel Johnson, both of Como.  He also leaves two brothers, Fred Johnson (Joan) of Oxford, and Lake Johnson (Marilyn) of Waterford, and a sister, Sue Hensley (Travis) of Mooresville, Alabama.  He was preceded in death by siblings Hoyt Johnson and Nell Schmitt.

Services for Mr Johnson will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm, in the Chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 16, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.  Burial, following the service, will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Trent was a remarkable man. Never a dual moment around him. He shared his life experiences not bragging but to encourage others on their journeys. I worked for Trent in the natural gas profession and he always had time to share knowledge. Trent always spoke so kindly of his wife and son Daniel, Daniel had just enlisted in the military when I went to work for Trent and when he would get a call or message from him he was so delighted. Trent taught me to journal. There were times when he would leave the office for a short time and he would call and ask me to check his journal for something specific- it was always right there were he told me to look. My heart is saddened. Trent will forever be remembered in the highest regard.

Best boss I ever had! Utilities management was a position that only few could do and Trent did it extremely well. I knew Trent had my back. He was a public servant for sure! Here’s a little funny… I remember getting a call one day from my mom that one of my boys didn’t get off the school bus. I run into Trent‘s office frantic and he said, go sit back down I’ll take care of it you can you just go on with your work. I knew he would, he was just that kind of guy. He returned in a little bit and told me Yep I found him on the bus, We stopped and I got him a pack of M&M’s and a Coke and took him on home. I think you really enjoyed being the hero that day! We would talk occasionally he would call me when he had computer problems and that was fine I enjoyed catching up with him. Like I said best boss ever had! Prayers go to Jane and Daniel.
