Leslie Byron "Junie" Hurdle Jr, of Slayden, passed away at his home on July 9, 2024. A native of the Slayden community, Mr Hurdle was born on November 2, 1945, to Leslie Byron Hurdle Sr and Eula Mae Valentine Hurdle. He served in the United States Army from February of 1966 until he was honorably discharged in February 1972. Mr Hurdle was a farmer for many years.
Mr Hurdle is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sue Hurdle, of Slayden. He also leaves two sons, Tim Hurdle (Linda) and Jackie Brown (Angela), and a special niece, Shelly Feathers. In addition, he leaves two brothers, Paul Hurdle (Nellie) and Alan "Skeet" Hurdle (Judy), five sisters, Kathy Crawford (Boyce), Dinah Kay Lundine (Joe), Jennifer Speir (Gerry), Eydie Branyan (Bob), and Beverly "Nubbie" Hurdle, and nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. Mr Hurdle was preceded in death by his parents, Tootsie and Tump Hurdle.
Services for Mr Hurdle will be held at Slayden Baptist Church on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 am. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening, July 12, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Burial, following the funeral, will be in Slayden Cemetery.
Brother Joel Strahan will officiate the funeral service, and pallbearers will be Jacob Hurdle, Nathan Hurdle, Roy Davis, Clay Crawford, Brooks Rhea, Blake Rhea, and Robbie Lundine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Slayden Cemetery Fund. The Holly Springs Funeral Home has charge.
