Doris Cochran


Doris Cochran went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.  She was 96. A life-long resident of Holly Springs, Mississippi, Doris was the daughter of Marie Miller Sandusky and Dr. Walter Cooper Sandusky of Holly Springs.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Leslie Blackwell Sigman and Samuel Vadah Cochran, Jr.; her precious grandson, Dudley Rook Moore IV; and her dear brother and sister, Dr. Walter Cooper Sandusky, Jr., and Marie Evelyn Sandusky.

A graduate of Blue Mountain College, Doris taught high school English and history and later, kindergarten.  For many years she owned and operated a gift shop, The Bell Book and Candle, in Holly Springs. Doris was past president of The Holly Springs Garden Club and The Thursday Club and enjoyed opening her home, Dunvegan, for the Holly Springs Pilgrimage. She was a former choir member, soloist, and adult Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Holly Springs, where she had been a member since childhood.

She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Rook Moore; her son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Joan Sigman; her grandchildren, Marie Moore Holder (Ryan), Susanna Moore Moldoveanu (Tudor), Marley Sigman Edwards (Eric), and Sam Sigman; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Austin Holder, Katherine Wakefield Holder, Grace Elizabeth Moldoveanu, and John Rook Moldoveanu; and her sisters-in-law, Lois Philpot Sandusky and Rita Cochran Langus.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Holly Springs on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour preceding the service. Memorials may be made in Doris’s memory to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 428, Holly Springs, MS 38635, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.

The family would like to sincerely thank Gail and Daniel Houck and the kind and caring staff at Christopher’s, along with Jualdine Hudson, Dot McWhirter, Dr. Martin Weiss, and all Doris’s faithful friends, especially Carole Robison, Lockie York, Pat Stubbs, Frances Buchanan, and the members of the Friday Night Club.
