Jerald "Jerry" Stephen Newsom
Jerald Stephen Newsom, 69, of Byhalia, passed from this life and into glory at Baptist Hospital in Memphis on October 24,2025. He was born in Memphis on November 12, 1955, to Sterling Newsom Jr and Mary Lucille Shackelford.
Jerry, growing up as one of ten siblings, maintained a profound and loving bond with his brothers and sisters throughout his life. He possessed a playful spirit, a mischievous sense of humor, and a generous heart. He loved his children and grandchildren, enjoyed the outdoors, was handy, played tunes on his harmonica, and spent much time in his later years reading
scripture and listening to sermons. He often encouraged his children whenever saying his goodbyes; “keep the Lord first, that’s the main thing.” He believed and found hope in the gospel
of Jesus Christ. His faith is now sight.
Jerry is survived by a son, Jason Perry Newsom (Melissa) of Coldwater, and two daughters Jessica Newsom (John) of Parsons, Tennessee, and Rebecca Newsom Emerson (Michael)
of Hernando. He also leaves two brothers, Gary Newsom of Coldwater and Cary Newsom of Marion, Arkansas, and five sisters, Dianne Geeslin, Patty Pesce, and Tamee McClure, all of
Olive Branch, and Roxanne Bondurant of North Carolina and Mary Ann Yon of Byhalia, and five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Aiden, Trent, Lucy, and Isaac.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Newsom and Mary McVay, and two brothers, Jeff and Roger Newsom.
Services for Jerry Newsom will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at noon, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Byhalia.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 and will continue until service time. Burial will be at Betts Cemetery. The Holly Springs Funeral Home has charge.
