Barbara Jean Gilliam

Barbara Jean Gilliam of Lake Center gained her heavenly wings on October 28, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 2, 1944 to the late Robert H. and Betty Newman in Vincennes, IN. She was a graduate of Potts Camp High School and attended Northwest Junior College.

She married the late James(Jimmy) Gilliam on June 13, 1963. she lived most of her life in Marshall County and had served the county for the last 24 years at the Marshall County Tax Collector's office. Prior to working for the county, She worked for WKRA for 25 years and for Attorney Ralph Doxey for 5 years. She was a 28 year breast cancer survivor and member of the Holly Springs Pilot Club for more than 20 years.

Barbara was a member of the Lebanon Church of Potts Camp for greater than 35  years and actively served as their treasurer.

She is survived by her children, Louann Tomlinson (Marshall) and Jim Gilliam (Mary Beth); grandchildren, Jeremy Gilliam (Elizabeth), Chelsey Gilliam, Brittney Allen (Dustn), Heather Tomlinson, and John Tomlinson (Christina); great grandchild, Sam; sisters, Sarah Brigance (Jim), Mary Ann Autry (Terry), and Donna Stockstead (Mike); brother, Bo Newman (Millie); and a host of nieces and nephews.

There will be a drive by visitation on Sunday at the Holly Springs Funeral Home starting at 12:00 p.m. and going until 1:45 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. in Hill Crest Cemetery.

I worked with Barbara at WKRA and she was always joyful, even when things weren't always the brightest. She always had a warm smile and a friendly way about her at all times. My prayers go out for the family. Absent from the body, in the presence of the Lord.
