Holly Springs Funeral Home

Delmer "Scooter" Pipkin

Delmer "Scooter" Pipkin, 66, of Holly Springs, passed away at his home on February 11, 2023. He was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on February 23, 1956, to James Clyde Pipkin and Mamie Hudson Pipkin.  Scooter was employed by the Holly Springs Funeral Home and Thomas Monuments until his retirement, where he was a monument designer, stonecutter and grave opener.

Scooter was a quiet, artistic man, who loved life and truly enjoyed doing small acts of kindness for others.  He took great pride in his work, lovingly digging the graves and designing and cutting monuments of countless numbers of people.  He was an avid reader, and he enjoyed doing crossword and word puzzzles.  Scooter often said that he began living some of the best years of his life when he came to live with Charles and Juanita Thomas and their children in Holly Springs at the age of 13, staying with them until he married the love of his life, Mary Roberson in September of 1977.

Scooter is survived by a son, Phillip Pipkin of Collierville, and a sister, Patricia Teachnor of Noblesville, Indiana.  He also leaves four grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty six years, Mary, his parents, an infant twin sister, Wilma Faye Pipkin, two brothers, James Clyde Pipkin and Phillip Wayne Pipken, and a great grandchild.

Services for Scooter will be held in the Chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 11:00 am.  A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am.  Burial will be at Hill Crest Cemetery.
