Harmon Andrew Mannon

Harmon Andrew Mannon, 89, of Laws Hill, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at the Veteran's Home in Oxford on January 10, 2022.  Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, at 12 noon, followed by the service at 1:00 pm, at the Holly Springs Funeral Home at 1160 Highway 311.

Harmon was born on October 28, 1932 , in Union County.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Lulabell Stanton Jones, his father, Ellis Mannon, and his daughter, Cathy Mannon Hall.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, and the mother of his children, Minnie Cannon Mannon, and his wife Mary E Muse Mannon.

Harmon is survived by his son, Harmon Mannon Jr of Laws Hill, and three grandsons, Hunter and Austin Mannon and Michael Goode, all also of Laws Hill.  He also leaves four great grandchildren, Ellie, Logan, Wesley, and Molly Goode.  Also surviving  are two sisters, Jean Roberts and Sandra Jones, and three brothers, James, Billy, and Joe Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Many years ago, Harmon accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church.

As a young man, 20 years of age, Harmon enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1953.  He was stationed in Camp Gordon, Georgia and Fort Hood, Texas, and later transferred to Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as a military policeman.  He earned the SharpShooters Badge (rifle), National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  He received an Honorable Discharge in April, 1956.

Upon discharge from his military service, Harmon began his 38 year career in law enforcement; first as a Marshall County deputy sheriff, and then as a policeman for the Holly Springs Police Department.  He retired as a Captain in 1994.

In addition to his law enforcement career, he  spent many years raising cattle, horses, and various other farm animals.  One of his favorite things to do was taking friends and family on long trail rides aboard his wagon, pulled by a team of mules.

Mr Mannon will be laid to rest in a private family cemetery.  There will be no graveside service.  Fond memories and expressions of sympathy to the family may be shered in the online guestbook.
