John Lane Hobson, 75, of Lamar, passed away at his home on July 13, 2023, following an extended illness. He was born in Benton County, Mississippi, on March 12, 1948, to Emmett Hobson and Opal Massengill Hobson. Mr Hobson was a retired Master Seargent with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, having twenty seven years of service. He was also owner of Hobson Body Shop, where he was very active in the family business. Mr Hobson was well known for his amazing work ethic and his intentions to be of service to his friends and to his community. He dearly loved his family, and he loved watching Westerns on television.
Mr Hobson is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Betty Mason Hobson, a son, Jonathan L Hobson (April) of New Albany, and a daughter, Alana Crawley of Olive Branch. He also leaves two sisters, Nancy Hobson of Texas, and Hazel Rogers of Ashland, and four grandchildren, Dylan, Drew, and Lauren Hobson, and Brayden Crawley. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gaylon Hobson, and a sister, Aileen Smith.
Services for Mr Hobson will be held in the Chapel of the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 2:00 pm. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Saturday evening, July 15, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Burial, following the service, will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ashland. |
