Holly Springs Funeral Home

Karita Edwards Hurdle

Karita Edwards Hurdle went home to be with her Lord on April 30, 2021.  She was surrounded by her family and friends during her long illness.

Karita was born to Jarohn and Lelon Edwards on June 24, 1938, and grew up in the Holly Springs community.  She made many friends throughout her lifetime.  She met and married Wayne Hurdle at the age of eighteen, and they enjoyed raising their four girls on the farm.

Karita never met a stranger and she loved all people.  When meeting someone new, she would do a quick family history in her head to connect the dots.

Most of her working life involved kids.  She was always involved in her girls' school, and especially through sports.  She served as PTA president for many years at Mt Pleasant Christian Academy, and later opened a daycare in her home and became Memaw to all!

Among her many passions were watching tv-- mainly ballgames and reality tv.  Her most favorite thing to do was to host family gatherings.  She loved to cook, mainly sweets.  She knew everyone's favorite dessert and happily obliged.  She wasn't happy unless she had prepared five or six cakes and pies for each gathering.  She also enjoyed telling stories on family members and often embellished them a bit.

Karita was generous to a fault and practiced re-gifting, many times.  She always felt that someone needed the gift more than she did.

Karita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, her sister Theda Sandlin, and her baby sister Billie Jay.  She is survived by her brother Steve Edwards of Collierville; her four daughters, Yvonne Simpson (Bert) of Holly Springs, Paula Jo Miles of Bartlett, Pam Clarkson (Tim) of Holly Springs, and Toni Hurdle of Memphis; grandchildren Mindy (Joe), Robby (Jaclyn), Landon (Kim), Trey, Cory, Tyler (Nikole), Jordan (Jack), Konner, Piper (Tyler) Brennen, Easton, Aiden, Carsyn, Grace, Adley, Harper, Skylar, Joden, and Kaitlyn; great grandchildren Brantley and Kinsley, and so many sweet nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends, too many to name.  She will be sadly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

The family would like to thank all who cared for Karita in any capacity; you know who you are.  Special thank you to Dr. Gregory Stallworth, who was exceedingly kind and thoughtful over the years, Alliance Hospital and Hospice, Heart of Hospice, Holly Springs Rehab and Healthcare Transformative Daycare and all the many kind, caring people she met along the way.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please contribute in Karita's memory, to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation or any childrens' charity of your choice.

Services for Karita will be held at the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at noon, with a visitation beginning at 11:00, and lasting until service time.  Burial will be at Carey Chapel Cemetery.
