Holly Springs Funeral Home

Sam Morris Wilson

Sam Morris Wilson,82, of Hickory Flat, Mississippi, passed away at his home on October 27, 2023.  He was a lifelong resident of Hickory Flat.  He was born on June 6, 1941, in New Albany, to James and Mary Frank Wilson.  Sam was a 1959 graduate of Hickory Flat High School, and a retired local truck driver.

Sam was known for his love of the outdoors and a passion for hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed spending his summers at the lake, creating cherished memories with his family and friends.  During the winters, he could be found in the deer woods with Dale, Kenny, Greg or Cade.  Sam had a green thumb and loved to grow vegetables in his garden.  He and Kenny spent many evenings tending to the garden, picking vegetables, and preparing their harvest for the winter.  Additionally, he had a talent for cooking, and delighted in preparing meals for his loved ones and large gatherings.  Whether it was championship BBQ cook-offs, fish fries, or a large cast iron pot of stew for the entire town on Halloween, he was always cooking.

While most called him Sam, his favorite name was Papaw.  With six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his lap was always full.  The great grandchildren looked forward to rides in the golf cart with Papaw, along with whatever snacks they wanted, anytime they visited.

Sam will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, but mostly by his wife of 35 years, Dale Wilson, his children Kenny Wilson (Lee Ann), Kellie Mitchell (Keith), Chuck Ballard;  grandchildren Greg Wilson, Cade Howell (Hannah), Sydnie Mitchell (Tristan), Landon, Saxon, and Payslea Ballard;  great grandchildren Jace and Jeter Howell, and Delilah Glasson, and his sister, Frankie Brown (Steve).

He was preceded in death by his father, James M Wilson, his mother, Mary F Wilson, and his son, Danny M Wilson.

Sam's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, with visitation from 12:00 until 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00, both held at Pine Grove Baptist Churchin Hickory Flat, where he was a member.  No graveside service will be held.  Holly Springs Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Pine Grove Baptist Church and James Elton Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers are Thurman Clayton, Clinton Moffitt, Kenneth Brock, Glenn Cossitt, and Rickey Pipkin.
