Raymond Daniel “Danny” Colston, age 84, of Holly Springs, Mississippi, was born
on April 12, 1940 and passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024 surrounded by his
loving family. Born and raised in Holly Springs, he was the beloved son of Ola Lee
Tomlinson Colston and James Edgar Colston.
Danny was a devoted husband to his wife Bobbie, a loving father to his daughters
Sheri Wilmes (Eric), Tonya Colston, stepsons Kevin Gross (Jana) and Jeff Gross
(Zara). He was a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren Dana Fisher, Sara
Parker (Matt), Matthew Harrison, Nicholas Harrison, Hannah Harrison, Stephen
Parks, Savannah Parks, Landon Gross, Turner Gross and four great-grandchildren
as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Irene Bailey, Fred Colston,
Edward Colston and Mamie Lee Smith.
A veteran of the Korean War, Danny served in the U.S. Army before becoming a
police officer in the Memphis Police Department. A dedicated Freemason, he later
founded his own successful timber and landscaping company.
Danny will fondly be remembered for his infectious personality, hearty laugh and
love for fishing and the mountains. Known for his generosity, free advice and
endless stories and jokes he was a natural conversationalist who never met a
stranger. His brutal honesty, strong opinions and remarkable sense of humor
endeared him to all that knew him. Danny lived life to the fullest, always the
center of the action.
In his passing, Danny leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and kindness that
will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of
knowing him.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 26 from 5 to 8pm at Potts Camp First Baptist
Church. A Veteran Service and Memorial will be held Saturday, July 27 at 11:00
am at Potts Camp First Baptist Church. Graveside Service following at Hillcrest
Cemetery in Holly Springs, MS.
Go stand high on that mountain, Danny. Your memory will live on in our hearts
forever.
