Shannon Gibbons

Shannon Gibbons passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the age of 40.  Born on August 30, 1981, in Greenwood, MS, he lived, attended school, and worked as a mechanic in Marshall County for most of his life.

In 2001, Shannon met and later married Melinda Smith.  The two enjoyed nearly 20 years together.  Shannon and Melinda welcomed two daughters, Alivia in 2004 and Alaina in 2012.  He also took pride in raising his niece, Haley Smith.  In 2019, Shannon and Melinda became grandparents for the first time and Shannon was affectionately knnown as "Pop Pop".  Being a father and grandfather was the greatest joy of his life.

In addition to work and family life, Shannon was an avid drag car racer and enthusiast.  Shannon spent most weekends at the Byhalia Racetrack and was thrilled to have his children with him as they were older and also took interest in the sport.

In addition to Melinda, Alivia, Alaina, and Hailey, Shannon is survived by his father, Johnny Gibbons of Marshall County and Brenda Petty of Walls, MS, as well as his brother James Gibbons, half-brothers, Daniel Gibbons, Richard Petty, and half-sister, Sarah GIbbons.  Shannon is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Marsha and Ricky Taylor, with whom Shannon spent most of his childhood and remained close with until his passing.

In addition to immediate family, Shannon is survived by his grandmother, Ethelene Hulsey, uncles, Steve Rodgers, Paul Gibbons, Rod (Janie) Hulsey, and RIchard (Selena) Hulsey.  Shannon leaves behind numerous neices, nephews, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his grandfather, James Gibbons, aunts Kathy Esmon and Audrey Gibbons and uncles Tommy Esmon and Scottie Rodgers.

Services will be held at the Holly Springs Funeral Home on Thursday, November 4, 2021.  Visitation at 9:00 am. Funeral at 11:00 am.  Graveside service to be held at the family cemetery on Mahon Station Road.  Celebration of life and meal to follow services at Marshall County Fairgrounds.

Pallbearers: Rod Hulsey, Tommy Esmon, Shane Esmon, Justin Rodgers, John Taylor, Roger Marple, Thomas Roberts, Jordan Draper, John Fuller, and John Causey.
