September 22, 1951, he married Grace Lorraine Hankins.  They were blessed with five children:  Mike Shaw (Cathy), Steve Shaw, Tim Shaw (Cherrie), Eric Shaw all of Waterford and Robin Merritt (Robert) of New Albany.  They enjoyed 35 years nurturing children and the farm until her death October 13, 1986. As always, he gathered his family close and vowed to hold us in his love and protection.
December 1, 1990, he was blessed to find another beautiful life partner when he married Betty Smithwick Smith gaining four more children: Ervin Smith Jr. of Memphis, TN, Steve Smith (Rhonda), Lela Hale (Kerry), and Barry Smith (Robin) all of Potts Camp.
“Big Daddy” lived life to the fullest enjoying his huge loving family and being in the middle of all the activities. Big Daddy and Mama Betty shared 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
He and Betty attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Laws Hill where he served as a Deacon. He loved his church family. Throughout his illness he never lost his ability to pray.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Lorraine Shaw, his parents Thomas Green Shaw and Ora DeShazo Shaw Castleberry, his brothers James O’Leary Shaw and Thurman  Creed Shaw, his sister Janie Sue Shaw, and his son Tim Shaw.
He touched many lives throughout his time working for Coca Cola, Holly Springs Police Department, and the United States Marshall Service in the Oxford Federal Building.  He loved the land, planting and watching his cotton crops grow, and the harvest season.  He shared a special bond with his farmer friends.
Services will be at 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church cemetery in Laws Hill on August 9, 2020. His grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
