Virginia Lewis Cocke Mitchell

Virginia Lewis Cocke Mitchell, 83, of Holly Springs, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Oxford on October 20, 2025.  She was born On October  3, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Charles Powell Cocke and Mary Lewis Woodson Cocke.  Virgina was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs, and retired as a bookkeeper,  having worked with Merchants and Farmers Bank, Bank of Holly Springs, Fitch Oil Company and Cousins.

An active member of the Marshall County community for most of her life, 'Miss Virginia' served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Educational Foundation, as a Marshall County Election Commissioner, and as Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of  Holly Springs, as well as a loving grandmother, great grandmother, and trusted friend to so many.  

Virginia is survived by two devoted daughters, Jane Ann Mitchell Autry of Holly Springs, and Andrea Mitchell Chrestman (David), also of Holly Springs.   She also leaves two beloved grandchildren, Kelley Mitchell Autry of Holly Springs and Maura Jane McCool (Austin) of Grenada, and two great grandaughters, Konlee Jane Autry and Kenlee Allen.  Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of forty five years, Donny Mitchell, her twin sister, Ann Cocke Carpenter, a brother, Joseph Whitley Cocke, an infant sister, Kathryn Cocke, and her parents.

Services for 'Miss Virginia' will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Holly Springs.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, October 23, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, at the church.  Following the funeral service, burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hudsonville Cemetery Fund (4741 Highway 4 East, Holly Springs, Mississippi 38635), or to the Holly Springs First Presbyterian Church.
